Holy shit ladies, what is going on??? There has been some serious trash talking on the mommy blogs as of late and it totally bums me out. Nasty words, judging comments and a lack of support for each other as moms, much less as women.
Scary Mommy has been talking about it, as has Jill over at BabyRabies. I don’t know what’s going on, but it seems like we have forgotten how hard each of us has worked to get to where we are. How hard we all have worked to be professionals, writers, moms, and accomplished well-rounded women. How it doesn’t matter if we stay at home, or work in an office, breastfeed, formula feed… whatever… We have forgotten what it means to be a woman and what it means to support our tribe.
So to all those nasty, nay-saying bitches out there I say…
You need to be more like my chickens.
I have four hens. They are fantastic, feathered little egg producers who live a fairly simple existence. They spend their days investigating what the neighbors are doing, gossiping to each other and scratching for food. Every once in while there is a little bitching at each other… but for the most part, these four individual birds coexist in relative harmony.
And four times a day, I hear a cacophony, a chorus of chicken voices, raised in exhilaration and support.
This is their “egg song”.
They sing it in support of the hen who is laying, to rally around her as a flock. Her tribe supports her, sings her praises, gives her encouragement. No judgements on how she is laying, or if the egg is going to be the right shape or color. No criticisms on how’s she doing it, only praise for the fact that it is being done…
Everyone has judged someone at some point in their life. (I am as guilty of this as the next person.) Just knock it off and move on.
And instead of spreading negativity across the internet, spread support. Share love and encouragement for the women that are out there every day, being a homemaker, or an executive, or anything in between.
Stop bullying each other and start singing more egg songs.
Note: I’ve gotten quite a bit of static (did you miss the point?) on this post that chickens are actually nasty, evil bitches who like to peck the sh** out of each other. I’d like to say that maybe YOUR chickens are like that, but MY chickens aren’t. So let’s all try to be a little bit like MY chickens then, mmmmkay?

I'm so freaking awesome.
And while you’re doing all of that singing… how about taking a pledge?
To remember your community.
To support your tribe.
