SEO.
Before this past year, I didn’t even have a CLUE what the hell that was. Some distant cousin of Captain EO? Nope. Some mysterious way for me to get more eyes on my blog and make it into the search engines?? Yeah, pretty much.
Seriously, it all just seemed so daunting. There was talk of keywords and meta tags, alt tags and density… omg just stick me back in the world of baby bloggers and LEAVE ME ALONE!! But luckily, a fellow blogger had some pointers on how to make it easy. And I took some baby steps, started making a change and saw some results. But really what was most impressive were her results from changing her SEO!
I was getting about 1,000 page views a month, and my Alexa score was in the high 5 millions. Here we are a couple of months later, I’ve been picking up more and more knowledge about SEO, and it shows. I’m currently clocking in at about 4,000 unique visitors a month with about 10,000 page views. My Alexa score is now in the 600,000s, with a score of 80,000ish in the US (as of 7/3/12).
Now obviously this is not a TRY THIS and you’ll become Dooce! Or Amalah! But it can really help you get more eyes on that fabulous blog of yours and it’s not really that hard. I promise. I can be the LAZIEST person in the whole world and I made the choice to do a few things to change my SEO. I don’t kill myself for the keywords and if it doesn’t seem to fit in, I either stop trying so hard and write the post, or as one good bloggy friend said, “You’re using the wrong keyword… find another.”
Trust me, you can do it.
And the best part is that the fabulous Steph at Hearts and Laserbeams wrote all of her tips down in an ebook. A super easy, super cheap EBook that lays it all out in extraordinarily simple terms that even I can follow and understand. Because while I’m a smart girl, I also have a toddler, a baby on the way and the attention span of a flea.
If you are interested in learning more this really is the jumping off point for you. Dive into the world of SEO with Hearts and Laserbeams for only $10!! (That’s like, TWO lattes at Starbucks, totally worth it.)

My bloggy friend Steph, at Hearts and Laserbeams, provided me with a free copy of the book to review. All opinions are my own and she rocks. IMHO.
