So I just realized that while I stressed and nested like a maniac about room decor when I was pregnant, I never actually SHOWED anyone what I had done with it. The kids rooms were a big deal to me, especially the Big Kid, since he was going through enough drama with the addition of a new sister and I wanted him to LOVE his new room.
He was obsessed with maps at the time, so I wanted something REALLY cool to tie together his love of maps with his love of airplanes. Enter lulukuku. They did this MONSTER decal on the wall for us and he LOVED it. It was a little time consuming to put up, but AMAZING once it was. We were able to pick the color that we wanted and they had a TON of other cool decals to pick from.
My Mom and I loved putting together this room because of the history that’s in it. The bed was my dad’s when HE was a little boy. We’ve had a few problems with it, it IS 70 years old after all, but it’s a pretty cool bed. The dresser was my father in law’s and my hubby sanded it down and re-stained it. It was supposed to come out as dark as the bed, but because the wood is old growth it kind of did it’s own thing… which lucky for us is gorgeous.
The model airplanes are from Hobby Lobby… my OBSESSION… and the lampshade was a simple shade that we already had and then covered with SUPER COOL airplane fabric. You really can’t go wrong with P-51 fabric for the airplane obsessed kid.
Last but not least, our homage to Disney. I didn’t want anything cheesy, but since he LOVES Cars so much I figured I’d print out the pictures I took from CarLand last year. I kept them kind of vintage-y to stay in the theme of the room.
I’d still love to do some cool storage eventually, maybe something that looks like vintage suitcases or something, but for now? One room down.
All in all it turned out BEAUTIFULLY and he didn’t mind at all that we moved him out of his old room and into a new room and new bed all in one fell swoop.
Of course I hear the little elephant upstairs jumping around on said bed and it’s 10:00pm.
Crap.
