Time to throw open the windows, throw on that bikini and dust off the old grill… Except I think that came out wrong, because I don’t usually grill in a bikini… but you get my meaning.
Now normally I don’t begrudge my hubby the chance to demonstrate his manliness by making fire and throwing a slab of meat on ye olde grill. He gets to stand out there in all of his caveman glory, stoking that flame, tending to the meat and coaxing out some damn good charbroiled flavors. It’s very impressive.
But sometimes? I just want to grill it myself.
There’s something about stepping out of the kitchen (at least for me) and cooking in the great outdoors. The sizzle of the meat as it hits the screaming hot racks. The meat caramelizing on the open flame and getting that delicious crust on top. Me emerging from the billowing smoke, smelling like a campfire… mmmmmmmm. And since I don’t actually camp, I figure this is the best that it’s going to get with regards to cooking out as nature intended.
As long as nature intended a combo gas/charcoal/smoker/sear-er… *ahem*
I’m always looking for new recipes for the grill, especially ones that aren’t your typical slab of meat. Because while I love me a good hunk of grass-fed, sustainable cow, there are other meats in the world and I’m trying to explore them more often. I’ve done a killer Mediterranean marinade with chicken (or beef), fish packets with salmon or halibut and grilled zucchini and peppers from the garden.
An important part of grilling successfully is to use the best oil possible, which is why I tried out grapeseed oil. The Pompeian Grapeseed Oil has a super high smoking point, meaning that you can grill at the high temperatures that grilling requires, without worrying that your oil is going to start breaking down and losing both it’s nutritional value and it’s taste. And it’s part of that Mediterranean diet that everyone is talking about these days. I mean those people are SUPER healthy so they have to be doing something right with all the oils they eat?
Pompeian Oil has paired with Hungry Girl to create some recipes showcasing their incredible family of heart healthy oils and vinegars. We tried the mustard chicken and the peach jalapeno shrimp (just a note though… use fresh peaches!) and both recipes were to DIE FOR. Because while it’s cool when the husband wants to grill up his slab o’ meat, a real woman knows she can grill up a heart healthy dinner that her whole family will love.
