My kids obsession with sports and moving has been brought to you by the California Milk Advisory Board… and it’s a good thing, because we drink a LOT of milk.
This kid is a mover. A shaker. A crazy, non stop, on the go kind of guy.
His sister is the much the same, always looking for things to do, people to see and dangerous activities to partake in. I mean, have ya seen the video?
But so what, you say… he’s sporty. And yes, you’d be right. The kid never met a sport he didn’t love or wasn’t even sort-of good at but even if he wasn’t a total sports freak and didn’t always have to be outside playing baseball or soccer…
We’ve always encouraged both of them to MOVE.
We walk to school every morning. We take family bike rides. If the weather sucks we have dance parties in the house. We do all of this because I’ve always believed that it’s important to move your body. (Although trust me, I have the days where all I want to do is nap, so I promise, I’m not totally awesome all the time.)
In this increasingly high tech and low exercise society that we live in, our kids aren’t getting the movement that their bodies need to develop. Fuel Up to Play 60 says that they need to be moving for at least one hour.
Sixty Minutes.
3600 seconds.
That’s all it takes everyday to keep your kiddos (and yourself) healthy! Add to that a healthy and nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner and you will lay the groundwork for your child’s whole, healthy and active life.
In an effort to keep our kids healthy and happy, the California Milk Advisory Board, representing more than 1500 CA dairy farmers, has activated Fuel Up to Play 60 within the state of California. The Fuel Up to Play 60 campaign was started by The National Dairy Council and the National Football League in an effort to get our kids more active and eating more fiber rich, nutrient dense, just-plain-healthy types of food.
The coolest part of this campaign, besides creating health conscious kids, is that California Schools that qualify could receive up to $4000 to help support their health and wellness programs! They just need to creative comprehensive health programs from the Fuel Up to Play 60 Playbook, with “plays” that could include creating a healthy eating program, or coordinating the 100 mile club for their school.
It’s easy to sign up too. Whether your kid is old enough to sign up on his own, or you want to sign up as a supporter or even as a teacher, the Fuel Up to Play 60 website has amazing ideas and resources to get your kids moving and eating healthy. They even include a cookbook with healthy and delicious recipes from kids around the country!
We live in an awesome state and even if your kid isn’t a super sport monster like mine is, there’s something out there for everybody. From hiking the mountains, to surfing the ocean, to even just getting out there and taking a walk, California has so many things to offer and so many ways to get out there and exercise.
Even if it’s just tackling your brother for 60 minutes…
How do you and YOUR family try to get moving every day???
