I have always been what I like to categorize as a sporty, girly-girl. When I was young, playing high school field hockey I LOVED wearing our cute plaid skirts to play in. Our lacrosse skirts were even shorter, but still just as plaid and JUST as adorable. I was a killer on the field, but still enjoyed wearing the occasional bow in my French braids. I could be cute, but still be functional.
As a sports player who wore a skirt, I accepted the idea that I could always wear skirts with shorts underneath. Bike shorts usually, short and black and such full coverage that I could do anything in those short skirts… from play field hockey to sit cross legged in the senior lounge and do my homework. I felt adequately covered up and totally dressed… no matter how short the skirt.
As I got older, it became less and less acceptable to put athletic shorts under everything, which I found annoying, and to be honest, a detriment to my skirt-loving self. I wanted to be able to dance and run around in my cutest, flow-iest, shortest skirts, but didn’t really want to show off the goods (if you know what I mean). As a mom, this got even more difficult and annoying because how many moms wear cute, flow-y, short skirts and can still manage to lean over and pick up kids, or get down on the ground and play with them? Not many, unless they feel like flashing someone. I even felt like my shorter shorts were out of the question because they had a tendency to ride up and show off a LOT more than I had planned.
A LOT.
So what’s a fun, stylish mom heading into summer to DO?
Grab a pair of Jockey® Skimmies® Slipshorts and relive your glory days! Skimmies are the grown up equivalent of those bike shorts I wore under everything so many years ago except SO MUCH BETTER. Skimmies are a super lightweight slipshort (sounds so much more elegant than bike short, right?) that not only covers your assets (wink wink) but smoothes out the dreaded VPL and keeps static at bay. They are awesome for the flow-y short skirts that I have always loved, but even feel great under a pair of palazzo pants or shorts. They come in a bunch of colors and I want them ALL. They also have two lengths, so for me and my super short skirts, the slipshorts are like boyshorts, only longer… The longer length are great for wearing under long dresses this summer to avoid the dreaded Friction Affliction that comes with those hot summer temps.
I personally was stoked to be able to ride a bike again, in a skirt, without flashing the whole world. Because I want to be a mom and have tons of fun with my kids, but I also want to enjoy the hot summer days in a little bit of style… and comfort.
