The last day of school came and went and not 5 days passed and we were already winging our way across the country, heading for the East Coast. Heading for the farm. Summer had started and like I started my summer every year for 13 years, I was headed for a small farm in upstate New York. A farm, nestled in between the Berkshires and the Catskills, a farm that shaped my childhood and would now shape my own children’s summer… or at least a week of it.
Not too terrible a place to spend the summer, right?
This trip was important for so many reasons. To share my kids with their great grandmother, after a long two year hiatus. To see my uncle, my aunt, my cousin and his family and to re-experience a place where I created so many memories growing up.
And where they’ve created a few already…
I find now, it’s all about creating the MOMent (get it, MOM-Moment?). That point in time where you want to freeze the frame, stop the video of life from moving forward or backward and just watch… and experience. That moment of life when the heat is high and the water guns are out, when the giggles are just too much, the popsicle is melting too fast and the juice drips down the chin. When life is simple and AWESOME.
Let’s be honest, very few situations aren’t made AWESOME by a popsicle… especially a Twin Pop. My kids and their cousin picked their flavor from the rainbow of choices in the clear plastic Budget Saver Twin Pops bag and I felt a twinge of guilt as my son said… OMGOSH Mom, there’s TWO!! Had I never introduced my kids to a Twin Pop before? A childhood staple of mine growing up?
Fail.
I mean, the Twin Pop has been around since the Depression, so that kids could split their popsicle and still only pay a nickel. A NICKEL. Luckily with Budget Saver Twin Pops I felt like I wasn’t paying much more than that… when my bag of 18 twin pops cost less than 3 dollars.
WHAT THE WHAT??
The fun thing is though, is that they are DELICIOUS. When the Peanut grabbed her favorite, the “lellow” one, she took one lick and exclaimed… “Mom, it’s not lemon, it’s BANANA!!!”. This of course elicited a round of yells from everyone about MINIONS and BANANAS and then water guns and summer and giggles and oh lord, I’m experiencing a new MOM-ent all over again.
I feel like this is the beauty of summer. There’s no need to panic about having them home all the time, because bust out the water guns, the bubbles and the Budget Saver Twin Pops to create the perfect MOMent.
It doesn’t take too much. Slow down. Enjoy your time together.
Grab a popsicle. Make a MOMent.
